STORY / GAMEPLAY The game is set in a distant future and it's a classic arcade conversion in which the hero is flying with his jet-packs in horizontally-scrolling landscapes, shooting the attacking alien hordes. Unfortunately the Master System version does not support the 2-players mode found on the arcades. The hero shoots using a laser gun with unlimited ammo. As in the original coin-op version, the character can fly in an eight-way direction and can also rotate (aka roll switch) by pressing the relevant button. Rotating the switch left or right allows you to adjust the character's aim from one to sixteen different directions. This allows you to move the hero anywhere while keeping his aiming in one direction. Pressing the switch rapidly will initiate a unique attack that will hit all on-screen enemies, but at the expense of a just a small portion of their vitality gauge. The hero is accompanied by a satellite module orbiting around him and provides backup firepower every time you fire your laser. Extra firepower can be upgraded by collecting points when destroying certain enemy units. GRAPHICS / SOUND The Master System's graphics are fine, sporting colorful sprites and backdrops (especially on the more advanced levels). Some of the backgrounds are a little simple but, considering how good the overall levels are, you won't even notice it. The sprites move quite fast and smooth without showing any slowdown issues whenever the screen is crowded. Each level offers its own details resembling the original (arcade) though limited by the Master System's hardware. The sound consists of a fine music tune on the main menu while there are some short tunes during a level start and no music during gameplay. There are several sound FX including a spot effect for every single laser shot and explosion. | |
